Children with Special Needs
The SKIP Program
In an effort to provide the best possible care, we have created the SKIP (Special Kids in Our Practice) Program. The SKIP Program is designed with children with complex medical issues in mind.
In 1998, the American Academy of Pediatrics Committee on Children With Special Needs recommended that the primary care provider's role in treating children with special needs is to serve as a "medical home" and to help supervise and coordinate their care.
We at Westwood-Mansfield Pediatrics take this responsibility to heart. We are comfortable managing, in consultation with specialists, children with a diverse group of medical conditions including autism, ADHD, cystic fibrosis, and metabolic diseases.
Children enrolled in the SKIP Program will automatically have extra time allotted for all appointments, allowing for all of their issues to be thoroughly addressed. In addition, we may periodically contact parents with any new information or resources regarding their child.
Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions regarding the SKIP Program.
